About Compassionate Therapy Practice

At Compassionate Therapy Practice, therapy begins with the understanding that we’re all shaped by our experiences, and that healing happens when we’re met with warmth, not judgment.
My name is Chenelle Owen. I’m an accredited Psychological Therapist (BABCP) with specialist training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), alongside EMDR training and a trauma informed approach. I work with children, teenagers and adults, offering therapy in Banstead, Surrey and online, where distress is held with care and compassion.

Alongside my private practice, I also work within NHS Talking Therapies, including within a Community Trauma Clinic supporting people who have experienced complex and challenging life experiences and the lasting impact these can have.
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, shame, self-criticism or low self-esteem, or seeking support after difficult life experiences, this is a space to slow down, be heard, and begin making sense of things. I offer therapy that is evidence based, collaborative, and always tailored to you.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable individuals who find themselves stuck in patterns of self-criticism, perfectionism, or anxiety, often feeling they should be coping better than they are.
In sessions, I aim to create a space that feels steady, thoughtful and compassionate. We move at your pace, gently exploring patterns and experiences together, without judgment or pressure.
My approach is rooted in compassion because I believe meaningful change happens when we feel supported enough to face the parts of our lives that have been painful or difficult. My role is to walk alongside you in that process, with curiosity, care and respect.

I offer therapy in Banstead, Surrey as well as online sessions for people across the UK.
If therapy feels daunting, you’re not alone. Taking the first step can feel difficult, but you don’t have to do it on your own.
Clinical Training and Professional Experience
I’m an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (registered with the BABCP), with additional specialist training in Compassion Focused Therapy and trauma-focused approaches.

My background includes working across NHS services, CAMHS, the charity sector, and private practice, supporting children, young people, and adults through a wide range of difficulties.

I integrate Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) alongside Compassion Focused Therapy and CBT within a trauma-informed, relational framework, shaping therapy carefully around each person’s pace and needs.
I remain committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice, ensuring therapy stays grounded in compassion, research, and deep respect for each person’s lived experience. I also contribute to the training of other therapists through specialist teaching in Compassion Focused Therapy. I also offer Compassion Focused Therapy supervision for therapists who would like a reflective space to deepen their clinical work.
